IMPORTANT UPDATE ON 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR PLANNING

Dear Families:

In years past, online registration opened officially on July 15th. This year, as we have experienced, is unprecedented. 92% of our families indicated that they want their children back in school. We believe that a quality, future-ready education of our students is best accomplished that way as well. We also know that, during this pandemic, we need to offer remote learning for those students who have a health condition, or an immediate family member with a health condition, or any family who is not comfortable returning their child(ren) on site at this time.

In order to provide you with the most current information and more details about the reopening of schools, the registration timeline is being adjusted as follows

1) Monday, July 20, 2020: Parents will receive a general overview of what is being planned by Southern Door for the reopening of school. After reading the general overview, parents will be asked to complete an Attendance/Enrollment Questionnaire to assist us in our planning, where they will be asked to let us know which of the following two options for educating their child they prefer:

   i.   In-Person, On-Site Five Days a Week Option according to the regular school calendar.

ii.   Full-Time Remote Option for those whose students/families who are not able to be on-site.

2) Wednesday, July 22, 2020:  Regular online registration will open officially for the 2020-21 school year. The August 5, 2020 on-site registration day is cancelled due to health & safety reasons. Instead, we ask that any families who are new to the district, or need assistance with registration call their respective school office to schedule an appointment for registration.
We are continuing our regular meetings with other local schools, the hospital, the health department, members of our athletic conference, and state agencies. As we have seen in the county, state, and nation, the pandemic continues to change on a daily basis. Our planning will blend common sense and reasonable strategies to minimize health and safety risks for our students and staff but we also know that there may be some COVID-19 recommendations that we are not able to meet due to other restraints and realities.

We will continue to communicate more details as the summer goes on. Just as our school community demonstrated this spring, the successful reopening of school is going to take the efforts of everyone – students, staff, families, and community. We know that if we all work together; our partnership will create a reopening that is Eagle Strong and Eagle Proud!

Yours in Education,

Patti Vickman, Superintendent
