A Message from Principal Vandertie (8.25.20)
Good evening elementary school families,

We are excited to begin the 2020-21 school year. While it may not resemble previous school years, we are dedicated to making it the best possible experience for everyone involved. Below are a couple of important items for you to be aware of:

1) Please see the most updated information regarding updates and changes to our Fly Like an Eagle Plan, also available on our district website:  http://www.southerndoor.k12.wi.us/fly_like_an_eagle_2020-21

2) School begins Tuesday, September 1 at 7:55 a.m. with doors opening at 7:30 a.m. For students getting dropped off, parents should use the drop off lane and your child should use the crosswalk to enter the school. Students in PK-grade 3 should enter through door #41 and students in grades 4-5 should enter door #1.

3) Upon entering school, if your child eats breakfast, they should go to the cafeteria immediately to eat and remain there until 7:45am. If your child will not be eating breakfast, 4K will report to their resource learning areas, grades K-2 will report to the elementary gym and grades 3-5 will report to the middle school gym.  Students will be asked to remain in their grade level cohorts and physically distance. Please do not drop off your child prior to 7:30am as there will be no supervision.

4)  At 7:45am students will meet their teachers in the main hallways.

5)  A virtual Open House for all students in grades PK-5 will be held on August 27th. Classroom teachers will be sending out specific Google Meet invites using our district communication app called Parent Square (if you haven’t signed up for Parent Square and need assistance, please email me,  [email protected]) Students and their families will have the opportunity to participate in virtual get-to-know-you sessions (six options provided) during the hours of 4:30-7:30pm. This will be a great opportunity for teachers to learn more about their students and for your children to learn more about their teachers.  Students will even get a virtual tour of the remodeled classroom spaces!

6)  The school office will be open for assistance with late student registrations, medication drop-offs, and technology equipment distribution for 100% remote learners on Thursday between 4:30-7:30 pm.

7) Revisions to our school operations and procedures can be found in the At-A-Glance materials published last week. Please feel free to reference the document if you'd like specific information:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1esVFznyVb6lv1a_7eI7LBGeilt3ZXcGb

I thank you in advance for your tremendous patience, grace, and collaborative spirit as we’ve put together our re-entry plan. Southern Door families are truly the BEST!! As always, please feel free to call me at 920-825-7321 ext. 1106 with any questions you have.

Eagle Proud, Eagle Strong!
