NEW K-8 ASSESSMENT USED TO PERSONALIZE INSTRUCTION

We are excited to share that our school district is implementing a new best practice math and reading assessment program for grades K-8 called i-Ready. This assessment will replace the MAPS assessment your child may have done in the past. Below you will find information on the program and how we will be using it in the classroom. i-Ready will support full implementation of our district adopted curriculum resources in math and literacy.

What is i-Ready? i-Ready is an online assessment that will help us determine your child’s needs, personalize his or her learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. I-Ready allows us to meet your child exactly where he or she is and provides data for us to increase your child’s learning gains.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualize based on his or her answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or a grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s personal learning in the classroom.

When will my child take the i-Ready assessment? We will do this assessment three times per year so that teachers can use the student learning information to adjust instruction for your child. The first assessment period is already underway.

If you have any questions about this assessment, please contact your child's building principal.
